United under a common mission to “strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities,” the DC Central Kitchen combats hunger by preparing and distributing thousands of daily meals for individuals in need. It also helps prepare disadvantaged community members for successful careers through its Culinary Job Training program.
Serving young adults who have previously experienced barriers to employment, DC Central Kitchen Culinary Job Training offers the opportunity to obtain ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification, as well as other valuable culinary credentials. This 14-week course includes professional food preparation education, career readiness training, and hands-on internships.
Over the years, DC Central Kitchen Culinary Job Training has helped over 1,700 people establish fruitful culinary careers. In addition to entering the restaurant and hospitality industry, program graduates have found work in the cafeterias of various corporations, as well as institutions such as hospitals and schools.
